I am a physician-scientist and Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at UCSF. My clinical and scientific focus is on prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in youth. Specifically, I use pharmacologic and genetic approaches to evaluate pathophysiology and therapeutic strategies for youth with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. I lead the Progress in Diabetes Genetics in Youth (ProDiGY) study group, a genetics consortium that studies the genetics of type 2 diabetes and related traits in youth. I am also the PI at UCSF for the national multicenter DISCOVERY of Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes in Youth Study in addition to other NIH and industry sponsored studies. Clinically, I direct
the type 2 diabetes program at the UCSF Madison Clinic for Pediatric Diabetes. I am also a Co-Program Director for the pediatric endocrinology fellowship training program.
